I loved reading this, and I am so glad you ended up having a good time.
Regarding this, "When it was all said and done, it was chaos: some Secret Service agents told some of us that we had to throw out our water bottles, even though they were clear. Others made it through the security screening—with their water bottles—without issue.
I don’t understand any of this, and it makes no sense why the Secret Service and/or the venue security can’t answer such a simple question like this."
I have run big events w/ POTUS and VPOTUS and, unfortunately, SS can change the rule any...time...they...like, and the events team has 0 control. I will take it at face value it is for security, but it seems like rank disorganization at times.
I do wish event/conference teams would communicate more clearly, when possible, about things like heat, water, bathrooms--- its no joke.
Thanks for reading! The Secret Service is all new to me. It was weird to see how they picked all our stuff apart: they took my wallet, opened it up, touched all my debit cards, etc. Way more thorough than TSA at the airport. What an interesting experience.
