Sigh... unfortunately, I couldn't have "just bought their USB-C cable" since I ordered my Starlink Mini on August 6, 2024, and they must have released it after that.
I say "must have" because I didn't even know it existed until today. Starlink has never made any announcements about it as far as I can tell (I'm on their email list, and I follow them on 𝕏.) There's nothing about it on the "updates" page on their website either.
It appears you can't even "order" it on their website: the only mention of it anywhere is if you search the support articles, where it gives a schematic and FAQ, but there's no link to purchase it.
I even went to the website to put in a pretend order and see if it offers that option, but when you go to order the Starlink Mini, it offers an optional add-on of a "Mini Car Adapter," and it isn't clear whether that's ONLY a car adapter or a car adapter AND a regular USB-C cable. Are they two different things or just one thing?
Having said all that, this is indeed the positive kind of development I've been hoping for, except you still have to buy a third-party power source, which presents its own problems (I have no idea how long it will last on the Jackery Explorer 100—I'd have to test it to find out).
It's a positive development, to be sure... we are getting closer, but my goodness, the execution by Starlink (at least as far as consumer communication) has been poor thus far.
Nice review! You should have just bought their usb-c cable and any 100W battery. 3-4 hours of battery life and I can travel with my mini.
